Glassman Rejects Cox

Hartford County Executive Barry Glassman and self-described Hogan Republican is the Republican nominee for comptroller. Glassman has disassociated himself from radical insurrectionist Dan Cox, the Republican gubernatorial nominee. He made this clear in a reply on Twitter to Ryan Miner of the A Miner Detail blog and site:

Glassman further made clear in The Daily Record clear that, unlike Cox, he accepts the legitimacy of the 2020 election:

The self-described Hogan Republican acknowledged he has little in common with Cox, though again he didn’t mention him by name.

When asked if being a self-described “Larry Hogan Republican” meant he rejected the Trump-Cox brand of Republicanism, Glassman said: “Yes. The short answer is yes.”

“I’m on the record. The election was valid. It was not stolen. Mike Pence is not a traitor,” said Glassman.

Nothing radical here but that’s the point.

Kudos to Glassman who faces an uphill fight in the comptroller’s race but can hold his high regardless of the outcome.

Kelly Schulz and the Republicans Have a Major Roe Problem

The likely imminent reversal of Roe v. Wade deeply wounds any chances that the Republicans have of holding the governor’s mansion this November in strongly pro-choice Maryland.

Former Delegate and Secretary of Commerce Kelly Schultz, is running as a Hogan Republican and is seen as the more viable of the two major Republican candidates. She issued a statement designed to counter fears over abortion rights.

Thirty years ago, Marylanders voted to make abortion legal in Maryland, and any decision forthcoming on Roe v. Wade will not change that. The continued politicization of the Supreme Court is shameful and those fearmongering over Maryland abortion rights are only adding to that. While Kelly Schulz is personally pro-life, as governor, nothing will change with respect to current Maryland law on the issue.

But the statement doesn’t appear on her website or twitter feed.  It’s almost like she’s trying to hide it from Republican primary voters. Her statement doesn’t mention that she was endorsed by Maryland Right to Life as a candidate for the House of Delegates.

Democrats are ready to pounce. The Democratic Governors Association has already pointed out that she sponsored a constitutional amendment to ban abortion with no exceptions and that she has previously touted her “100% solid” pro-life record.

Maryland’s governor remains the most powerful in the nation. Would Schulz use these extensive powers in ways that curtail abortion access, particularly for poor women? Is her statement conditional on the election of enough numbers of Democrats to the General Assembly to override gubernatorial vetoes, as is currently the case?

Schulz’s major opponent, far-right loony Del. Dan Cox who embraces Trump’s election conspiracy theories, has also voted against abortion rights bills in the General Assembly.

Del. Cox Calls Pence “a Traitor.” Gov. Aids Police. Lt. Gov. Calls Trump’s Incitement Impeachable.

Even as rioters break into the U.S. Capitol and trash our democracy, Del. Dan Cox (R-Frederick) continues to foment lies regarding fraud. He’s attacked Vice President as “a traitor” for refusing to join in a seditious attempt to illegally overturn the results of the election.

The Governor and Lt. Governor are acting far more responsibly. Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford stated that Trump committed “an impeachable offense” by inciting violence.

Gov. Larry Hogan is aiding the DC Metropolitan Police and U.S. Capitol Police restore order and to protect our democracy against this “heinous and violent assault.”

As I write this, President Trump has just said “we love you” about the rioters breaking into the U.S. Capitol and continues to lie shamelessly about fraud even as he calls for these “protestors” to go home.

Republicans now need to choose between Trump and democracy. Will Republicans in the Maryland General Assembly continue to allow Del. Cox to be a member of their caucus and associate themselves with a vocal supporter of sedition? Or will they they stand with Gov. Larry Hogan and Lt. Gov. Boyd Rutherford on the side of democracy?

Republican Del. Dan Cox Now Using QAnon Hashtags

The hashtag #WWG1WGA, associated with the dangerous QAnon conspiracies, was used yesterday in a tweet by Maryland Del. Dan Cox (R-4, Frederick & Carroll). Apparently, the hashtag is short for the QAnon slogan of “where we go one, we go all.”

A member of the Maryland General Assembly is now associating himself with QAnon. Once again, the Maryland Republican Party faces a choice once again of normalizing the crazy and dangerous by joining or ignoring this, or facing it down.

I’d note the Senate Republican leadership recently swung right. Sen. Mike Hough, for example, who represents the same district, is enthusiastic for Trump and quit Washington football after decades because they dropped the name. But Gov. Larry Hogan’s brand is as a more sensible mainstream conservative. As leaders of their party, what will they do?

Dan Cox Goes Full Giuliani on Trump

If you needed more motivation to work to make sure Democrat Jamie Raskin defeats Republican Dan Cox for the open Eighth Congressional District, Cox is doing his best to give it to you (h/t Will Roberts). Not only did Cox not condemn the Trump’s pride in sexual assault but is angry at Republicans for any criticism of it:

cox4Cox’s twitter feed is a cornucopia of pathetic efforts to reinforce Trump’s tawdry pre-debate presser.

coxcox2Cox even supports turning America into a third-rate dictatorship where the winner of a presidential election locks up the loser:

Cox thinks this is winning. We get a chance to explain it’s not with our votes on November 8th.
